Music Based Projects

When children learn more about one another, and when their teachers recognize and celebrate their differences, they are more likely to feel a sense of community in the classroom. Teachers foster mutual respect when they provide activities that encourage conversation, sharing, and interaction.

Students are given the option of different pieces of music that have been vetted and approved by the director.

After listening to recordings of the pieces of music, students will break into groups based on the piece they would like the ensemble to perform.

They will undergo a guided score study to learn more about their piece.

Finally, the groups will present to the ensemble why they believe their piece should be performed.

After learning about multiple pieces, students will be allowed to vote on the piece they would like to perform.

Students will be divided into groups of 3-4. Using the Student Skills Inventory from Classroom Lessons, this can be the students' choice or the educator's choice.

Students are responsible for 1. creating a narrative of the artist’s life or 2. describing the most exciting parts of their career or work.
